The Monastery of Carboeiro, a historical monument surrounded by nature, or the majestic Cathedral of Santiago, a symbolic landmark in Galicia, are both well worth a visit too.

IN THE SPRING

Cocido de Lalín : The first quarter of the year plays host to one of Galicia’s flagship food festivals, with tasting of this traditional Lalín stew and the town’s streets coming alive with parades of floats and brass bands.

Saint-Joseph’s Day – March : Saint-Joseph’s Day is celebrated in March in several nearby villages, with low-key festivities that are nevertheless steeped in tradition. The local events and processions are a great opportunity to discover the region’s community spirit and rural customs.

IN THE SUMMER

Saint John’s Eve – June : This traditional celebration marks the beginning of summer with bonfires, dancing and local festivities. The community comes together around bonfires and celebrates all night long, offering visitors a wonderful insight into Galician traditions.

Octopus Festival – August : If you’re a fan of culinary traditions, then don’t miss the O Carballiño Octopus Festival, just half an hour outside Lalín. You’ll be able to sample octopus cooked to perfection while enjoying traditional dancing and music.

Chestnut Festival – October : The Chestnut Festival, celebrated in Soutelo de Montes, is one of the region’s traditional autumn events. This festival gives pride of place to locally grown produce including chestnuts, walnuts and other seasonal fruits, in a friendly, authentic atmosphere.
