Our team awaits to check you in and give you all the information you need to settle in. Don’t hesitate to come to the Regional Information Stand where we will be delighted to inform you about the essential activities to enjoy at Serre-Ponçon and the best hikes.

The Halle de Vie

Beneath a large safari tent, the Halle de Vie and its Place du Village are the meeting point at the Huttopia Campsite at Serre-Ponçon Lake. This large open space is home to the terrace and its two food trucks, as well as a play area which is the ideal place to enjoy a wonderful summer’s evening whilst the children play nearby.

NEAR THE CAMPSITE

A small grocery store is available next to reception serving up freshly baked bread and pastries in the morning. For other products, Remollon is 20 km away with a supermarket and cash machine. Are you keen to dine in our restaurant and peruse the gift shops? We recommend the wonderful villages of Barcelonnette or Embrun, which will allow you to discover the other banks of the lake.

ENJOY A SWIM IN THE SWIMMING POOL AND THE TURQUOISE WATER OF THE LAKE

At the Huttopia Campsite at Serre-Ponçon Lake, you can enjoy a swim at any hour of the day! As well as the many water sports on offer on the lake and special access to the beach, a wonderful swimming pool is available for a relaxing few lengths.

Huttopia Campsite Lac de Serre-Ponçon benefits from a fantastic location on the lake, which borders the site for 1 kilometre in total! The beach and watersports centre, located right at the campsite, are a great jumping-off point for exploring this huge lake and swimming in it safely – there are lifeguards 6 days a week in the summer.
The water level of Serre-Ponçon lake varies according to the seasons and weather conditions.

Lakeside walks

Around the lake there are walks for all levels, including a 3 hour 30 minute route starting at the campsite and climbing up the the village of St Vincent Les Forts. Climb up to the fort and, from the top of its Vauban Tower, you can take in the beauty of the landscape with the 360° view of the lake.

Water sports on the lake or in the air

At Serre-Ponçon, thrill seekers will be delighted by the vast array of sports on offer. Hand gliding and rafting are extremely popular on site due to the great reputation of the beauty spots: taking off from St Vincent and descending the legendary Ubaye river are just a couple of the must-do events. Of course, a wide range of activities are available for all levels, from paddle-boarding to canoeing, as well as a microlight flight over the lake. Simply unforgettable.

Whether with the family or seasoned pros, a wide range of routes are on offer to head off and discover the surrounding cycle routes. And if the mountain slopes are too steep, take any one of the 14 electrical mountain-bike tracks. And fear not, you can rent an electric mountain bike on the campsite!

Just under 500 metres from the campsite, you can book a day-trip or afternoon-trip on any one of the La Perle Noire boats. Cast off with our Skipper Olivier, for a guided tour on the lake with a platter of local products and quick dip in a creek included!

ELECTRIC MOUNTAIN BIKES

Explore the different banks of the lake in total freedom with our electric mountain bikes available at the Huttopia Campsite at Serre-Ponçon Lake. In the mud, on the sand or a steep climb, you’ll be unstoppable!
Available for hire for a day or half-day, for the entire season.

Each morning in summer (6 days a week) at Huttopia Lac de Serre-Ponçon, the 5-12 year olds become Little Trappers as they enjoy fun activities always held out in the heart nature: treasure hunts, wooden hut building, Land’Art, and more!

Thanks to its exceptional levels of sunshine of over 300 days per year, it is incredibly rare to have bad weather in Serre-Ponçon.
But, on those rare chances of being surprised by the rain, take a break from your sports activities and meet up with family or friends for an afternoon of board games.
And if you simply can’t help yourself, come and visit the Muséoscope which is a living museum of the history of the lake, the dam and the villages swallowed whole: a cultural outing well worth a visit!

A UNIQUE REGION TO DISCOVER…

The wonders of the Southern Alps

Serre-Ponçon, its famous lake, rafts and mountains.

 

Sitting at an altitude of 800m, the Serre-Ponçon Lake spans two regions, on the border between the Alps of Haute-Provence and the Hautes-Alpes, and is just a stone’s throw from Les Ecrins National Park with its Hiking Trails. As the outlet to the powerful Ubaye and Durance rivers, this large-scale lake is impressive thanks to its sheer size and fluorescent blue colour. Reminiscent of a piece of the ocean caught between the mountains!

The surrounding mountains form a genuine enclave around the lake; the banks are still wild and untouched since only 13km of the 80km of the lake’s banks have been redeveloped. Serre-Ponçon Lake is a real jewel of nature.
The water level in Lac de Serre-Ponçon varies according to the season and weather conditions.

Les Demoiselles Coiffées

27 km

Les Demoiselles Coiffées is a genuine unique natural phenomenon created by spectacular hanging rock formations, carved out by rain and flood water erosion. These rock formations are recognisable due to their chimney-like shape, which can be admired from the surrounding Sauze-Du-Lac or Théus.

Barcelonnette

35 km

Known for its villas and Mexican fiestas, Barcelonnette was, just a few centuries ago, a very poor town where some of the residents fled to Mexico to work in the gold mines and make their fortune. The colonial spirit reigns in this town where the immense villas are intriguing and bear testimony to the landscape. A must see!

Embrun

45 km

Take a day to stroll along the lake’s banks and visit Embrun, on the northern bank, nicknamed the “Nice of the Alpes” for its clement climate. The small winding streets with colourful façades in this Medieval village are extremely pleasant. And be sure not to miss out on a visit to the Notre-Dame de Réal Cathedral, the largest religious construction in the French Alps, which has earned Embrun the classification of a Town and Country of Art and History.

The Pic de Morgon

40 km

The legendary Grand Mordon Mountain in Serre-Ponçon has the most breathtaking panoramic view from which to admire the lake. This can be accessed by a magnificent hike, which is a must-do in the region, and punctuated by the changing scenery captivating every step of the way. A must-do for walking lovers!

Le Parcours des Fées

60 km

This 2 hour walk allows you to take in around twenty works of art nestled in the heart of nature. Each year, five artists are invited to create new works of art directly on the site. This open-air exhibit offers a real moment of poetry in the mountains, and is ideal for a family visit throughout the summer.

The Chapelle St-Michel et its small island

40 km

Arguably the most photographed monument in Serre-Ponçon, the chapel overlooks the lake, having been spared by the risking water from the dam. Today, the headland has become a small island, serving as a memory of the past, which can be admired in all its beauty during a boat trip on the lake.

Apiland, the Honey Museum

Head off and learn all about the fascinating world of pollinating bees during a visit to Apiland, the honey factory and establishment fully dedicated to bee-keeping in Rousset, just a 20 minute drive away.

Serre-Ponçon Animal Park

Delight the children with a trip to meet the animals of the Alps at Le Sauze-du-Lac. Enjoy a front row seat with the whole family and watch the birds of prey, foxes and ground hogs, and enjoy a game of recognising the footprints of the animals in fun-filled workshops.

Bel’Âne Educational Farm

Just 30 minutes from the campsite, in Belaffaire, Bel’Âne Farm allows you to visit its farm of miniature donkeys. Children will love to meet, stroke and brush these friendly and affectionate companions during a special moment.
