Sport and relaxation: kayaking on the Semois and forest hikes
Hiking is a must in the Belgian Ardennes! From Huttopia Ouren, the trails wind through the wooded landscapes around the Our river and lead to the meeting point of Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg. In the Vallée de la Semois, hiking paths and cycling routes also cross the forests and rolling terrain of the valley. For a day on the water, the Semois is ideal for kayaking. Several routes let you paddle downstream and take in the scenery from the river.
Ardennes conviviality: local beers and regional cuisine
After a day spent outdoors, there’s nothing better than savouring the authentic flavours of local specialities. The Belgian Ardennes is renowned for its craft beers, as well as its hearty cuisine built on regional produce (Ardennes ham and sausage, boudin blanc, pâté gaumais, Herve and Chimay cheese, maquée, bouquet des moines…). Discover the region’s flavours through nearby villages and local producers, and use your stay to taste traditional Ardennes dishes (la Cacasse à cul-nul, salade au lard, la Bayenne, Semoy trout, Meuse river fry…)
Right on the campsite, guests gather around the Café-Comptoir (Food Corner) during the season. Stop in for a drink, an ice cream or a bite to eat, depending on the site and opening period.
A micro-adventure on the water: which river to choose?
Both campsites sit on a riverbank, but the experience differs depending on your destination. For a proper kayaking outing, head to the Vallée de la Semois. The river winds through the wooded hills of the Ardennes, and the Huttopia campsite is perfectly placed for water-based activities. Huttopia Ouren, set on the banks of the Our, offers a more peaceful atmosphere. The river flows gently alongside the campsite, making it ideal for relaxing by the water. Smaller and calmer, it’s a great spot for children under their parents’ watchful eye. If kayaking and river activities are your priority, the Vallée de la Semois is the one for you. For a quieter stay by the water, make your way to Ouren.
A few facts about the Semois
The Semois rises in Belgium near Arlon, flows through northern France and joins the Meuse. The river has two spellings: Semois for the Belgian stretch, and Semoy for the French section.
The Vallée de la Semois has been a National Park since 2022. The Semois Valley National Park spans eight Belgian municipalities.

The surrounding area also offers sweeping views over the Ardennes landscapes, as Bouillon sits within the Semois Valley National Park and is surrounded by forests.

Over 1,300 km of hiking trails, including 26 loop routes, wind through forests, meadows and valleys.
For a bigger challenge, the Venntrilogie is a mainly walking trail of 109 km that crosses the region in three stages.
And if you’d rather cycle, the Vennbahn is a 125 km, six-stage route between Aachen in Germany and Troisvierges in Luxembourg, passing through the Eastern Cantons.
