For shops and restaurants, head to the village of Vresse-sur-Semois. You’ll find everything you need just five minutes from the campsite: grocery shop, Belgian chip shop, restaurant, pharmacy, bakery, banks, florist, butcher’s, etc.

You’ll love relaxing by the pool

At the Huttopia Vallée de la Semois Campsite, enjoy two stunning swimming pools: a heated indoor pool with a paddling area for little ones, and an outdoor pool perfect for soaking up the fresh air. It’s the perfect place to swim a few lengths and have fun with the kids.
Deck chairs and parasols are provided on the large deck to give you a comfortable place to relax. And the Café-Comptoir is close by in case you fancy a delicious ice cream between dips!

THE RIVER

Fun, relaxation and quiet contemplation along the Semois

The Semois is also ideal for having a go at fishing or playing on the bank. And when the sun sets, the river’s edge becomes a prime spot for campers to enjoy a pre-dinner drink.

FISHING

Fishing enthusiasts will be in their element, with the opportunity to catch pike, trout, perch, rudd and chub in the waters of the Semois. (fishing permit required)

PLANT AND WILDLIFE WALK

This nature walk, focused on spotting plants and wildlife, is a chance to truly immerse yourself in nature. The aim is for you to observe, understand and appreciate wild animals and the diversity of plant life.

ANIMAL TRACKING
(beavers, birds, otters, etc.)

This activity involves following and learning to understand the prints and other signs left by animals in their natural habitat. You’ll get a fascinating glimpse into the world of wild animals by studying the subtle clues they leave behind.

LITTLE TRAPPERS (AGES 5-12)

A programme of exclusive activities, run by our activity leaders and designed to nurture your kids’ adventurous side.

Each morning in summer (except on Saturdays) at Huttopia Vallée de la Semois, 5-12 year olds become Little Trappers as they enjoy fun activities in the great outdoors: treasure hunts, cabin building, Land Art, and more.

Vallée de la Semois National Park

The Semois Valley is one of Wallonia’s first two national parks. Containing vast expanses of forest and criss-crossed by over 400 miles of river and streams, this area in the Belgian Ardennes amazes visitors with breathtaking landscapes that make for unforgettable hikes and bike rides.

While here, you’ll also want to explore the typical villages of the Vallée de la Semois National Park, like Vresse-sur-Semois, Bouillon, Paliseul, Bertrix, Florenville, Herbeumont, Chiny and Tintigny, and its rich historical heritage, with remarkable sites including Herbeumont and Bouillon castles. Experience wild swimming, a hike with panoramic views, a night-time tour of a medieval castle or a romantic riverside walk… A trip to the Semois Valley promises a wealth of new discoveries and awe-inspiring moments.

Alle-sur-Semois

In the immediate vicinity of the campsite is the charming village of Alle-sur-Semois, with slate quarries, a mine, tobacco barns, the Pont de Claies bridge and more.

Laforêt

4 km

Located in the south of the Namur province, the village of Laforêt has been named one of the Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia. Its tobacco barns are a testament to this trade that was so important to the village’s past, while the wash houses offer an insight into the residents’ daily lives.

Rochehaut

7 km

This Ardennes village perched high up on a hill boasts a stunning view of the Semois Valley and the village of Frahan. It is home to a wildlife park, an agricultural museum and a hotel complex with a gourmet restaurant, a welcoming tavern and a shop selling local products.

TOWNS IN THE ARDENNES

On hilltops and beside rivers, these towns of art and history with their listed monuments, shops, taverns and restaurants are must-sees on a holiday to the area.

Bouillon

24 km

This town is located beside the Semois. Bouillon Castle, one of the largest fortified castles in Europe, overlooks the town and offers a stunning view of the valley. Take advantage of your visit to look round the Ducal Museum and Bouillon’s wildlife park, which has over 500 animals including a pair of white lions, takins and Siberian tigers.

Charlevilles-Mézières

35 km

This pretty French town is well worth a visit, with the famous Place Ducale, the fortifications of Mezières, Notre Dame d’Espérance basilica, the museum on the poet Arthur Rimbaud, and the international puppet theatre festival.

Dinant

60 km

Dinant is an unbelievably charming Belgian town and a hidden gem of the Ardennes. Its medieval architecture, colourful houses and citadel perched on a rocky outcrop make it an unmissable destination for lovers of nature and history.

Giant’s Tomb

Discover the fascinating Giant’s Tomb (Le Tombeau du Géant) in Botassart, near Bouillon. The site is listed as ‘exceptional heritage of Wallonia’ and ‘natural heritage of scenic interest’ due to its unique shape. A breathtaking experience in the great outdoors.

THEMED WALKS

• Legends’ Walk (Promenade des légendes): 2km walking route punctuated by all the characters from the region’s folk tales. Along the way, you’ll encounter the White Lady, the goat man and the werewolf. You’ll also come across gnome-like creatures called Nutons, Witches and Fairies. Suitable for pushchairs.
Starting point: Laforêt church

• ‘Along the Waterside’ walk (Au fil de l’eau): a 3km walk centred on geology and plants. Difficulty level: easy.
Starting point: Vresse church

• Pont de Claies walk: This iconic 3.4km route takes you to the Pont de Claies, a small, traditional wicker bridge once used to get to the fields on the other side of the river.

Huttopia Vallée de la Semois Campsite is an unspoilt peaceful haven, perfect if you want to take advantage of your holiday in the Ardennes to recharge your batteries in the great outdoors. The region has so much for you to explore, including nature reserves, local delicacies and incredible views.

Walking and cycling

Explore the magnificent scenery of the Semois Valley starting from the campsite and using the 500km network of signposted trails, perfect for hiking and mountain biking along rivers or streams or through the forest.

Kayaking

Admire the unspoilt natural scenery along the Semois as you make your way down the river with family or friends. You can hire kayaks or paddleboards right by the campsite through our partner and travel up to 13.5 miles down the river.

Fishing

The Semois is undeniably one of the most fantastic fishing spots the Ardennes has to offer. You can fish for pike, trout, perch, rudd, chub and more.

LOCAL FOOD AND DRINK

Local food products

This region has all the ingredients for a flavourful holiday. Sample Gaume honey in Virton, Gaume pâtés and saucissons, Ardennes ham, chocolates from Les Chocolats d’Edouard in Florenville, Walloon goat’s cheese and Orval cheese, directly from the producers or in local restaurants.

Craft beers

• The world-famous Orval beer is brewed in a Trappist abbey under the supervision of the monks.
• Rochehaut Brewery brews eight beers on-site using spring water. Tours of the brewery are available, with pre-booking required.
• The Bouillon brewery produces four beers, characterised by the use of a filtration-free production process and bottle conditioning.

What is there to do in the area with children (and the rest of the family)? Here are a few ideas, all within about an hour’s radius of Huttopia Vallée de la Semois Campsite.

Récréalle activity centre

The Récréalle activity centre, on the edge of the Semois, offers sports, games and other fun and relaxing activities to suit all tastes and all ages: kayaking, bowling, mini golf, swimming, tourist train, children’s play area, climbing and more. There is a café, restaurant and terrace on-site.

Tobacco Route (La Route du Tabac)

Along this route, with its plantations, viewpoints and tobacco barns, you’ll be able to learn more about this plant and find out about the history of its cultivation. It’s a great opportunity to explore the region’s heritage.

A deep dive into slate mining (Au cœur de l’ardoise)

Venture 25 metres below the Earth’s surface to discover a remarkable underground world bearing witness to the region’s industrial glory days. Over a trail a half-mile or so long, learn about the geology of slate, extraction techniques and the working conditions of the miners.

Tobacco Route (La Route du Tabac)

Along this route, with its plantations, viewpoints and tobacco barns, you’ll be able to learn more about this plant and find out about the history of its cultivation. It’s a great opportunity to explore the region’s heritage.
