PAYS DES ÉCRINS
Whether you’re looking for a gentle ascent or a more committed descent, the valley is full of varied routes, accessible directly from the surrounding villages. Among the must-dos:
• Sentier des Lutins (Vallouise → Puy, 4.3 km, easy, 1h–1h30) – Fun forest walk, accessible to all, punctuated by little elves and valley views. Start near Pont de Gérendoine.
• Pré Rouge + Crête du Rocher Noir (Puy Saint-Vincent, 600–1,000 m vertical, moderate to committed, variable 3h–6h) – Demanding high-altitude route to work on vertical gain with wide panoramas over the Écrins. Ascent from the Puy Saint-Vincent sector towards Pré Rouge, then extension to the Crête du Rocher Noir.
• Tête des Raisins (Freissinières, ~1,240 m vertical, quite difficult, 4h30–6h return) – Major demanding ascent offering vast views over the valley and peaks. Start from the outskirts of Freissinières (Testa Moute valley or equivalent access).
