A UNIQUE REGION TO DISCOVER (OR REDISCOVER)

Lot-et-Garonne: the best of southwest France in one place

Discover an authentic region with much to offer on the border between the Périgord Pourpre and Agenais regions.

Vast forests and rolling hills, vineyards, characterful bastides and medieval castles, farmers’ markets, delicious food and drink, village festivals… The Lot Valley is a friendly and welcoming destination offering a holiday experience that’s a long way from mass tourism – a ‘slow’ version. This is a place where you take the time to share and appreciate experiences, gradually immersing yourself in local life.

Packed with history, the area offers a whole host of cultural activities and heritage sites including royal bastides (medieval fortified new towns) and castles that tell us about the region in the Middle Ages.

Local food products are another integral part of the identity of the Pays des Bastides which still gives this southwest French gastronomy pride of place in its many local markets and village restaurants.

When it comes to outdoor activities, the rural destination that is the Lot Valley offers endless possibilities: bike rides through vineyards and forests, hikes from village to village, and boat rides on the Lot or along canals or rivers. A wonderful way to see the mills, fortified towns, medieval fortresses, orchards, farms and other gems of the region…

BASTIDES AND NEW TOWNS

Anyone who loves historic architecture will be fascinated by the rich heritage of the bastides of southern Périgord.
Built around a central square ideal for trade and commerce and surrounded by narrow streets named ‘carrerots’, the bastides are now lively places that are wonderful for strolling around admiring the ingenious medieval architecture.
