In AD 855, the Archbishop of Bourges, looking for a site to found a monastery, fell under the charm of Vellinus… Fascinated by the beauty of the place, he baptized the medieval town “Bellus Locus.” And Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne came into being! Take a guided tour of this magnificent medieval town and discover Abbey Saint-Pierre, the docks, the Penitents’ Chapel, and the Renaissance House.
HERITAGE AND REGIONAL PRODUCE
Beaulieu is ideally located for visiting the wonders of the region
There are seven villages classed as the “Most Beautiful Villages in France” in the local area that you can visit during your stay at Huttopia Beaulieu campsite: Collonges la Rouge, Turenne, Curemonte, Rocamadour, Carennac, Loubressac, and Autoire.
Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne is strawberry country
Four hundred tons of strawberries are harvested here every year, representing 1% of French production. Strawberries are celebrated on the second Sunday in May at the Strawberry Fair. For the occasion, a giant strawberry tart (8m wide!) is cooked by pastry chefs in the village. Several different events take place over the course of the day: a strawberry market, a food professionals’ market, a writers’ stand, gabare boat rides, and many other events!
Be sure to sample Noix du Périgord, straw wine, and Noyette, a delicious walnut cake that you can buy in Beaulieu.

It's a great site - river, pool, stroll into town. Nice. But plenty of lovely sites on the Dordogne. Not telling you about the wonderful one we found!
